About Kozani

Kozani is the city of Macedonia, the seat of the municipality of Kozani and the capital of the Regional Unity of Kozani in western Macedonia. It is also the seat of the Region of Western Macedonia. It is built between the mountain ranges of Vermio, Bourinos and Pieria, 15 km northwest of Lake Polyfitos at an altitude of 720 meters above sea level. It is 120 km from Thessaloniki and 470 km from Athens. It has a population of 41.066 inhabitants, while the new enlarged Municipality of Kallikratia has 71.388 inhabitants.

The Koventarios Municipal Library of Kozani is the second largest in Greece after Athens, and it has 153,000 volumes, more than 380 manuscripts, 315 codes and many rare editions, including one of the 17 surviving originals of the Riga Feraios Charter . For this reason Kozani was included in the National Cultural Network of Cities promoting the Book and Reading.The Historical-Folklore and Natural History Museum of Kozani is located in the center of the city and is housed in a building of Macedonian architecture.The Archeological Museum of Kozani is housed in the town's mansion.The Museum of Contemporary Local History.

The Mansions of Gr. Vourka and G. Lassani from the few remaining in the city. In the last one there is the Municipal Paper Station where one of the few prototypes of the Riga Feraiou map is exhibited among others. The new municipal garden of the city.
